Take your career further while making a difference
This is your chance to travel the country as a Civilian Bench Medical Officer
, delivering high-quality care across 50+ Australian Defence Force (ADF) bases. You’ll be at the forefront of healthcare for those who serve our nation.
As a General Practitioner
, you’ll play a vital role by:
- Providing expert primary medical care to ADF personnel in outpatient and inpatient settings
- Delivering patient-centred, holistic care alongside a multidisciplinary team
- Assessing fitness for duty and supporting health before and after deployments
- Offering critical medical advice to Joint Health Command leadership
- Ensuring Defence personnel receive top-tier care wherever they are stationed
A “Bench” role is a permanent employee status, so you will accrue sick and annual leave and know each day is a possible availability to be called in to backfill sick leave or planned leave on those days. It is a role rostering/operations use to fill shifts each week where they may have a vacancy, short term sick leave or planned annual leave. It is different to a casual role in the respect you are on the permanent staff and paid as a full time employee whether you fill all of your shift quota of 5 days or not. This does require a fair bit of flexibility and commitment to being available as you would be paid for each day.
A role designed for success
We’re looking for dedicated professionals who meet the following criteria:
- Australian Citizenship (required for Baseline Security Clearance)
- General registration with AHPRA
- Fellowship with RACGP (FRACGP), ACRRM (FACRRM), or Vocational Registration
- At least 2 years of GP experience in the last 5 years (GPT Registrar rotations counted)
- Recent CPD participation aligned with AHPRA requirements
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HLTAID009) certification
