Day-to-day as a civilian Bench Medical Officer

As a Bench Medical Officer, you’ll provide essential support to Defence Force members, stepping in when and where you’re most needed.


This role is vital to ensuring Defence personnel receive seamless, high-quality care during unplanned absences or periods of high demand.

Defence fitness assessments

Assessing fitness for duty, ensuring Defence personnel are physically and mentally prepared for their roles.

Expert medical advice

Advising on key medical matters to the Joint Health Unit Commanding Officer, Joint Health Command Centre Manager, & unit Commanders.

Versatile Care Settings

Working in both outpatient and inpatient settings, as required.

Pre- & Post-Deployment Care

Providing comprehensive care before and after deployment.

  • Please note, you must be an Australian Citizen to obtain the required Baseline Security Clearance for this role.
