As a Psychologist at Clarence Correctional Centre, you’ll play a crucial role in inmate rehabilitation by providing psychological assessments, interventions, and therapeutic services. You’ll work closely with a collaborative team to ensure the wellbeing of inmates, contributing to their successful reintegration. This role is based at the largest correctional centre in Australia, offering a unique opportunity to make a significant difference in a challenging yet rewarding environment.

As a Psychologist in the Rehabilitation and Reintegration team, you’ll make a positive impact by:

  • Delivering psychological assessments and therapeutic services to inmates
  • Providing expert consultation to staff on managing complex inmate behaviours
  • Supporting inmate rehabilitation through evidence-based practices
  • Engaging in ongoing professional development to enhance your skills
  • Contributing to a culturally sensitive and inclusive environment

To be successful in this role you’ll have:

  • Minimum four-year accredited qualification in psychology with current provisional or
  • full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia
  • Ideally experience working in a Correctional environment delivering the suit of EQUIPS, Real Understanding of Self Help, and Out of the Dark programs (not essential)
  • Experience in or willingness to learn assessment and treatment in psychology including mental health issues, cognitive impairment, and with respect to behaviour management.
  • Experience in or willingness to learn advisory and consultation.
  • Ability to develop knowledge and understanding of contemporary correctional concepts, principles, and practices relevant to psychology assessment and treatments.
  • Knowledge of or interest in criminogenic risk assessments, including risks related to sex and violent offending and associated interventions.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the psychologist’s ethical and legal obligations and professional accountability.
  • Cultural awareness includes understanding the impact and management of different ethnic backgrounds, customs, and contemporary issues.
  • Ability to perform clinical diagnoses and provide expert advice to relevant stakeholders or ability to develop such skills under supervision with senior clinical staff.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in both oral and written forms.
  • Ability to negotiate and resolve conflict.
  • Thorough report writing ability.
  • The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour.
